Microsoft Teams is an application for collaboration and communication in real time. Recently new features have been added. Discover in this article the latest news and upcoming ones!

New features for meetings in Teams

Number of participants and room assignment

At present, it is possible to organize meetings with up to 1,000 participants.

In addition, organizers can now reassign participants even when the rooms are open. Prior to this update, it was only possible to do so when the rooms were closed. These assignments can also be maintained over multiple sessions. These features are useful for collaborating effectively!

Surveys

Attendees and guests on mobile devices can now participate in surveys in Teams meetings. Also, use smart survey suggestions to quickly prepare questions. The answers to these surveys will allow you to make quick decisions after the meeting.

Custom backgrounds on iOS for meetings in Microsoft Teams

You can now customize your background when you are in a meeting from your iOS device. Choose a background from the Microsoft list or pick a photo from your device. This feature already exists in the Desktop App. In a few weeks, it will also be available on Android devices.

External presenter support in live events

You can allow outside users to be presenters and speak in your live events.

To allow external presenters:

When scheduling the meeting, on the "New Live Event" page, select the "Allow external presenters" option under "Invite presenters".

Note: It is also possible to enable this option once the event is created by double-clicking on the event in your calendar and selecting "Edit".

If you want to change the role of external presenters during the meeting, here are the steps to follow:

  1. Select "Show Attendees" in your meeting controls to see a list of everyone present at the meeting.
  2. Point to the name of the person whose role you want to change and choose "More options" and then "Make a presenter".

They will be able to share their audio and video, content, and see the group discussion of the presenters. However, they will not be able to access the questions and answers of the meeting or remove people from the meeting.

Coming soon:

Chat bubbles

In the near future, discussions sent during a Teams meeting will appear on the screens of all attendees as chat bubbles.

Translating conversations on Android

Conversation translation is coming soon on Android. With this feature, people speaking different languages can chat smoothly by translating messages within channels and chat. This facilitates international collaboration.

Live Transcription

Real-time transcripts during meetings are a handy new feature. After a meeting, the transcript file is automatically saved in the chat tab of that meeting. This will help users remember in real time what was said during the meeting and will also allow them to review it after the fact.

Video filters

It will soon be possible to use the filters to slightly adjust the lighting levels and soften the focus of the camera, prior to joining a meeting.
